The other Republican in the race

Above Average Jane offers an interview with Rick Santorum's GOP primary opponent, John Featherman. He wants to return dignity to the office, but only obliquely addresses most of the questions he's asked here...

ACM,

If you feel that I only "obliquely" answer most of the questions, then please tell me here what you what me to answer. You have a right to know specifically where I stand on every issue.

But I also have a right to face those who accuse me of being oblique.

When Jane contacted me, she said, "It is not uncommon for someone to skip a question."

I skipped no questions, and I felt I answered them specifically ... much more than Rick Santorum would. Please let me know where you feel I did not answer. Or, make up some of your own questions, and I will answer them here.

Deal?

to paraphrase the one that caught my notice:

Q: how should a representative balance demands of Washington with the need to stay in touch with your district?

A: I have the right views.

there were some others where one sentence of answer was buried in a large amount of chat directed elsewhere, but that's normal, but led my general impression astray. these aren't particularly the questions I might have chosen, so I don't particularly care whether you clarify anything. but I gotta say that if your impact on voters is anything like the impression you've made on me (where, say, you start at 100% welcome and work your way downward by 25% jumps with each encounter), there are probably better places for you to direct your energies. I'm a tiny blog with few Republican voters among my (already few) readers, and just don't need all the prickliness.

ACM,

I don't mind your disagreeing with any particular views I have. That's what democracy is all about. I would have never posted here if I my responses were referred to as oblique. I simply felt a right to respond. If you don't want me visiting here and posting my comments in a civil manner, just say so, and I won't.
I respect your opinion, and I respect your blog. This is your blog, and I certainly don't want to encroach in it if I'm not welcome.

But please be honest about where I started out with you. I did not even know you, and you said on Jane's blog that "wow, John, I'll take "Missed the Purpose of the Exercise" for $400! but, um, thanks for the prickly and off-putting input, the lifeblood of any campaign strategy...."

So, did I really start out at 100%? I didn't even know you, and you started insulting me.

TYPO-

Sorry ... meant to say I would have never posted here if I my responses were NOT referred to as oblique.

of course, the first time I mentioned you was way back here, so I can't really help when you became aware of *me*. I thought your entry to the race was great.

but I'll admit that I thought that the quote "We should keep religion out of politics, and politics out of religion" and "the Democrats haven't yet catered to the whims of those that are very religious" kind of missed the point of this post (on trying to get Democrats to be tolerant of people of faith), which was what sparked the compliation of responses that you were commenting on.

but blah blah. I suspect that we are now boring even ourselves...
