Monday news, late edition
Luckily, another busy day on my end coincided with a slow day on the news end. A bunch of political chat, endorsements, and other rants, though...
- Apparently Curt Weldon is raising money at a good clip from "defense interests," which fits with his long involvemet with armed service issues. His Democratic opponent, Joe Sestak, is also a military guy, but with only a fraction of the entanglements.
- The Daily News has some quotes from State House 182 combatants Babette Josephs and her primary challenger Larry Farnese, in which each dismisses the other. They point out that Josephs has staved off a series of challenger through the years... Dan at YPP questions Farnese's progressive credentials.
- More endorsements:
- The Inquirer picks Valerie McDonald Roberts for Lt. Governor over the incumbent -- a pleasant surprise. Above Average Jane has been digging through Roberts' speeches and writings and culled some quotes from her on a variety of issues.
- For US Senate on the Dem side, their pick is Bob Casey. The challengers won't be happy with their characterizations as overreachers.

- Young Philly Politics is announcing its own primary endorsements, and plans a big party this Friday to celebrate them and kick off the final weekend's work.

I wouldn't say Sestak has no entanglements. His spokesperson works for the lobbying firm of Sandy Berger - he of stuffing classified documents in his sock fame. One of Sestak's spokesperson's firms big clients is the French aerospace manufacturer Airbus, which competes for contracts with Boeing, THE major employer in the 7th District.
Though I appreciate the forum their blog provides, the YPP moderators' practice of labeling anyone who agrees with them as "progressive" and anyone who doesn't as "not" reminds me of the right-wing propaganda machine who denounce anyone who disagrees with their respective party line as "liberal" (in a pejorative sense).
We questioned the progressive credentials of a guy who was registered as a Republican, and who took the endorsement of a group that generally supports Republicans, fights against raises in the minimum wage, etc.
Shocking!
