Belated Monday round-up
- It looks like Philadelphia's South Street bridge isn't the only one dropping concrete onto trains and traffic underneath; an even more dramatic crumble in Pittsburgh is leading the state to order inspections for more than a hundred elderly traffic bridges scattered around PA.
- A Daily News article reassures would-be condo buyers that the market is unlikely to collapse, given that Philadelphia is still catching up with other large cities in real estate prices.
- A Daily News opinion piece decries recently introduced state legislation that would restrict the rights of gays. They suggest that it's just a divisive political stunt, and are appalled at the disregard for civil rights that it represents.
- In a related story, Ray Murphy applauds a small New Jersey town that took steps to provide benefits to same-sex partners of civil employees. One of the protagonists of the story (and a photogenic blonde lass) turns out to be his aunt!
- Another Murphy posting at YPP points out some upcoming hearings/votes on bills to restrict voting rights in Pennsylvania, and encourages concerned citizens to get involved.
- Above Average Jane notes the passing of a state senator from southeast PA, Robert Thompson. No word yet on any special election plans to fill his seat.
