- An Inquirer editorial looks at two different plans to reduce gun violence among the city's youth, one proposed by Mayor Street (expanded Youth Violence Reduction Partnership) and the other by state Rep. Dwight Evans (Blueprint for a Safer Philadelphia). The writer expresses some fear that the potential for cooperation on this critical issue will be overshadowed by the politics of the next mayoral race.
- Make of it what you will: mayoral hopeful Tom Knox has ponied up $5 million for his election run (giving it to a dedicated political committee). Not clear that his money will buy him recognition or interest, but it's making the other would-be candidates scramble to match his war chest. Dan at YPP raises some good questions about a candidate whose only justification for being in the race is his net worth.
- oh, the third piece got dumber and more mystifying the farther I read, so I decided not to blog it. :)

My name is Will Wittels. I am the Deputy Communications Director for Knox for Philly. If anyone is looking for more information on Tom, or why he is working to turn Philadelphia around, our website (www.knoxforphilly.com) should launch this Thursday.
I should point out that it is not fair to characterize Tom the way that YPP has. As someone who grew up in public housing projects, Tom is deeply committed to making sure that all Philadelphian's get the public services that they need and deserve. That commitment good government and qaulity public services is Tom's justification. His money simply means that he can't be bought.
I think that Dan was just pointing out that Knox didn't remark any of those things, but so far has just pointed out his financial independence. I'm sure we all look forward to hearing more...
