Quick Wednesday round-up
Office closing early, so quick notes only. Additional posts unlikely before Monday.
- Jon Corzine's first action as governor-elect of New Jersey was to convene an ethics advisory board to help him flesh-out/implement his proposed measures to improve government ethics and restore the public's faith.
- The Daily News notes the closing of a Kensington ice rink, one of only five in the city, and notes that it's among the victims of Mariano's costly legal troubles.
- The Phila Weekly has a story about a battle between City Council and rail company CSX over the Schuylkill River Park, condition of railways, and other aspects of corporate citizenship. Many allegations, and a lawsuit pending.
- The City Paper is also out a day early, and offers the following three stories:
- Citizen meets City Councilman, and hatches a plan that may help military families in the area.
- Mariano has a new PR guy with a lot of work to do. Also bits here about U.S. Attorney Meehan's visit to the area and about mayoral hopeful Tom Knox.
- A piece about the powerbrokers and politics behind finishing the overhaul of Independence Mall. Interesting.
- Citizen meets City Councilman, and hatches a plan that may help military families in the area.
- Noteworthy in the context of the TABOR debates, America's Hometown notes that Pennsylvania's spending is about average among the states.
