Radical fixes for PGW debated

Young Philly Politics caught the story that Harrisburg is considering taking over Philadelphia Gas Works, first to pay off its debt and then to privatize it. Do we want a major utility run for profit? What will become of the employees (currently unionized city workers)? and other good mullings.

One of the reasons for the comeback of Dennis Kucinich in Cleveland was that the courageous stand he took as Mayor of Cleveland--killing the privatization of a Cleveland utility--was found to have produced tremendous long-run savings for the people of Cleveland.

I cannot help but believe that it will be cheaper for the citizens of Philadelphia not to have to pay utility profits than to have to pay them.

Kucinich ran the City of Cleveland into bankruptcy; doesn't exactly have the reputation of being a good government manager.
