Not just bloggers focused on violence
The media has a frenzy of worry about crime rates today:
Update: and meantime, Philadelphia appears to be cutting it's police force by 10% this year...
- Street appeals to Rendell for help with crime rate, especially control of gun proliferation (which is a state matter)
- A bunch of stories at the Daily News along similar lines:
- Street: Too many people get gun-carry permits in city
- The tally rises -- another 15 killed in the last 48 hours.
- A cry for help -- with proposals for action.
- Report of a planned gun amnesty day, and more exhortation to keep guns off of playgrounds.

Why are you focused on guns? It is the innocent people who get fingerprinted and get concealed gun licenses so they can protect themselves from the criminals, not the criminals themselves. I know, I am a DC cop. The poor people in DC are victims in waiting, because they cannot even keep a gun in their own home for self defense. Guns are not the issue, friend. It is the PEOPLE.
Who said anything about *my* focus?! I'm summarizing the news reports, and it appears that Street thinks that there are too many guns in circulation---certainly none of these people was killed with a knife while sitting on the playground. In fact, Rendell ran for governor in part on the claim that he'd reduce the rate with which people can buy guns.
But I must admit that I doubt that your "poor DC victims in waiting" would be hampered by a limit of one per month (as is the argument being made); only street resellers would find it a problem. "Innocent people" rarely stockpile weapons.
